His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi inaugurated the 42nd Sharjah International Book Fair with the theme “We Speak Books” at Expo Centre Sharjah, running until November 12. The event was attended by dignitaries, including the Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and the Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.
His Highness highlighted the importance of the Arabic language, correcting historical inaccuracies in linguistic studies and emphasizing his efforts to preserve and research the language through the forthcoming “Dictionary of World Languages.” He also discussed the Historical Corpus of the Arabic Language, comparing it to a Swedish linguistic dictionary.

His Highness introduced a new project called “World Languages” and advocated for referring to these languages as “Adam’s language.” He expressed his commitment to preserving the Arabic language due to its significance in faith, religion, and humanity.
The Sharjah Ruler welcomed the South Korean delegation, expressed gratitude to the Guest of Honour at the 42nd edition, and extended his welcome to participants in the 1st Sharjah International Conference on Arabic Language Studies in Europe for Non-Native Speakers, the delegation from Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland, and the Libyan Arabic novelist Ibrahim al-Koni.
The Swiss publisher Unionsverlag received the 7th Sharjah Translation Award for their translation of Raja’a Alem’s novel, “The Dove’s Necklace.”
His Highness also signed first editions of the Historical Corpus of the Arabic Language and “Oman’s History: From Ancient Settlements to the Fall of the Ibadi State” during the opening ceremony.
HE Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of the Sharjah Book Authority, praised the growth and achievements of SIBF, emphasizing the fair’s global reach, with participation from 109 countries and over 1.5 million titles.
Ibrahim Al-Koni presented a philosophical perspective on happiness and the desert, emphasizing the importance of passion and mastery in one’s work.
The Guest of Honour, South Korea, commended Sharjah’s role in uniting diverse cultures and expressed their excitement to contribute to cultural exchange.
His Highness toured various Sharjah-based pavilions, engaged with their cultural contributions, and visited pavilions displaying works from local and Arab publishers across diverse domains.
The 42nd SIBF features 2,033 publishers from 109 countries, including 1,043 Arab publishing houses and 990 foreign counterparts, offering a vast collection of 1.5 million titles and involving 215 prominent Arab and international writers, thinkers, innovators, and artists.
