The federal government has been unable to control the rising sugar prices as Ramazan approaches, with rates surging to Rs. 165 per kg in multiple cities.

According to the latest data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), sugar prices have soared across different regions, with Islamabad and Peshawar recording the highest rate at Rs. 165 per kg. In Rawalpindi, Larkana, and Karachi, the price stands at Rs. 160 per kg, while Lahore, Multan, and Quetta report rates of Rs. 155 per kg. Sialkot and Bannu are selling sugar at Rs. 158 per kg, while Faisalabad and Khuzdar report Rs. 155 per kg. The lowest rates are observed in Hyderabad and Sukkur at Rs. 150 per kg.
The national average sugar price has climbed to Rs. 155.27 per kg, and concerns are growing that prices may rise further during Ramazan if authorities fail to take action against market manipulators.
