Saudi Arabia Grants Extended Eid al-Fitr Holiday to Employees and Students

Employees and students in Saudi Arabia enjoyed an extended holiday at the end of March in celebration of Eid al-Fitr.

The official Eid break for workers began on Sunday, March 30, following the conclusion of Ramadan, which had started on March 1. The holiday lasted for four days, until Wednesday, April 2, with employees returning to work on Thursday, April 3. Since March 28 and 29 were part of the regular weekend, workers benefited from an extended break.

For students, the holiday started earlier, beginning on March 20. As per the Ministry of Education’s academic calendar, schools were set to resume on April 6. The exact date for Eid al-Fitr was to be confirmed based on the sighting of the crescent moon.

Eid al-Fitr, a significant occasion in the Islamic calendar, marks the end of Ramadan, during which public and private sector employees in many Muslim-majority countries receive days off to celebrate.

In addition to Eid al-Fitr, Saudi Arabia is preparing for other key holidays:

  • Eid al-Adha in early June, with a four-day holiday for workers. The festival begins on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, following the Day of Arafat.
  • Saudi National Day on September 23, observed annually as a national holiday.

These nationwide celebrations provide employees and students with well-deserved breaks while honoring important cultural and religious traditions.
