A female student at the University of Lahore recently attempted suicide, prompting urgent police action and medical care. Authorities have arrested a young man, Ahmed Bilal, in connection with the case. The suspect was taken into custody from Narang Mandi in Sheikhupura, the hometown of the student, identified as Fatima.

Reports indicate that Fatima wanted to marry Ahmed Bilal, but her family opposed the match, insisting she focused on her studies. Police say this disagreement may have led to severe emotional distress, culminating in the suicide attempt.

Investigators revealed that Fatima’s last phone call before jumping from a university building was to Ahmed Bilal. She deleted his contact shortly afterward. Her family has provided statements to the police, which are part of the ongoing inquiry.

Fatima is currently receiving critical care at a hospital. She sustained serious injuries after falling from the upper floor of the university building and has not yet regained consciousness.

This incident follows another recent student suicide at the same university. Last month, a male student, Owais Sultan, died by suicide on campus, raising concerns about mental health and support systems at educational institutions.

Police said Fatima arrived at the university around 7:58 am but did not attend her class. She was on a phone call for approximately 27 minutes before the incident at 8:30am. Investigators also noted that she had deleted her last call record. Family members confirmed that she had received a new mobile phone a day earlier to replace a malfunctioning device.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to understand the full circumstances of the student suicide attempt. They are also examining the role of the arrested individual in the case. University officials have not yet released a public statement but are cooperating with law enforcement.

The recent incidents have sparked concern among students and parents about mental health support and crisis management at universities. Experts recommend early counseling and awareness programs to prevent such tragic events. For more details on Pakistan’s latest aquaculture initiatives, check out our coverage on Maryam Nawaz To Boost Aquaculture With 5,600-Acre Shrimp Estate. This project aims to expand shrimp farming and create new economic opportunities.

The University of Lahore authorities have been urged to strengthen safety measures and provide professional guidance to students facing emotional or psychological challenges.
