Strong Earthquakes Strike Myanmar and Thailand, Causing Destruction and Panic

Myanmar and Thailand were rocked by two powerful earthquakes on Friday, with the first registering at a magnitude of 7.7, followed by a second tremor of 6.4 magnitude just minutes later near the Sagaing region of Myanmar. The seismic activity was felt across the region, reaching as far as Bangkok, Thailand.

In Bangkok, the impact caused the collapse of an unfinished 30-storey building, trapping 43 workers inside. Rescuers are racing to save those still trapped, with seven workers having managed to escape. One person has been confirmed dead, while several others have been rescued from the rubble.

The epicenter of the quake was located near Mandalay, Myanmar, where social media posts showed scenes of devastation, including collapsed buildings and debris littering the streets. Witnesses described the panic as people fled from their homes, and rescue operations are underway to assess the damage and casualties.

In Myanmar, a tea shop collapsed, trapping people inside, and a mosque was severely damaged. In Thailand, the tremors caused skyscrapers to sway, prompting mass evacuations from office buildings.
