Starlink’s Arrival Expected to Revolutionize Pakistan’s Digital Connectivity

Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, has lauded the upcoming launch of Starlink internet services in Pakistan as a major leap toward narrowing the nation’s digital divide. Speaking during a visit to SpaceX headquarters in Los Angeles, the ambassador emphasized the transformative impact of high-speed satellite connectivity, particularly for remote and underserved regions.

Starlink, a project by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, uses low-Earth orbit satellites to deliver broadband internet in areas where conventional infrastructure falls short. During the ambassador’s visit, both sides discussed how Pakistan could leverage Starlink’s network and SpaceX’s technological prowess to uplift its digital ecosystem and promote inclusive access.

Hosted by Starlink executives, the Pakistani delegation was given a tour of SpaceX’s advanced facilities and briefed on collaborative efforts already underway. Discussions also touched on long-term plans for digital expansion and innovation through strategic international cooperation.

The visit comes as Starlink has been granted a provisional licence to operate in Pakistan, with services expected to launch by the end of 2025. The government is also evaluating a competing application from China’s Shanghai Spacecom, in a move to foster competition and innovation in the satellite internet sector.
