Starlink Satellite Internet Service Launches in Bangladesh Amid Political Turmoil

Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk’s SpaceX-owned satellite internet service, Starlink, officially launched in Bangladesh on Tuesday, offering high-speed, low-latency internet access across the country. The move comes as Bangladesh strives to ensure reliable internet connectivity despite recent political instability.

Muhammad Yunus, who assumed leadership of the government after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled the country following violent protests last year, highlighted that Starlink provides an internet service resilient to disruptions caused by political unrest.

Starlink announced on X (formerly Twitter) that its service is now available nationwide in Bangladesh. Monthly subscription packages start at 4,200 taka (around $35), with a one-time fee of 47,000 taka for the necessary setup equipment, according to Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, an aide to Yunus.

Taiyeb described Starlink as a sustainable alternative for premium customers seeking high-quality, high-speed internet services. The interim government under Nobel Peace Laureate Yunus took control in August after Hasina’s departure to India amid protests that had led to internet shutdowns last July.

Starlink has rapidly expanded its presence worldwide and operates in over 70 countries, with emerging markets like India and Bangladesh targeted for further growth.
