Sui Southern Gas Company Limited has said it is actively working to resolve a technical fault that led to a gas shortfall of nearly 30 million cubic feet per day. The company expects the deficit to be recovered within the next few days as supply conditions normalize.
In a statement, SSGC said gas pressure will gradually improve once full supply levels are restored. This is expected to allow normal gas services to resume for domestic consumers across Sindh and Balochistan.
A company spokesperson explained that an unexpected cold spell significantly increased household gas consumption in both provinces. The use of geysers and room heaters surged sharply, pushing overall domestic gas demand up by almost 10 percent.
To manage the increased demand, SSGC diverted around 90 million cubic feet per day of re-gasified liquefied natural gas into its distribution system. However, a further drop in temperatures extended cooking hours and intensified gas usage during morning and evening peak times.
The spokesperson said the situation worsened when an upstream technical issue reduced gas supply by about 30 million cubic feet per day. This led to lower pressure, particularly in tail-end areas of the gas distribution network.
In response, SSGC implemented its government-approved load management plan. Gas supply to fertilizer plants was curtailed, and weekly closures for industrial units were enforced to prioritize domestic consumers.
SSGC said it remains committed to protecting household gas supply in line with federal government directives. The company aims to ensure uninterrupted gas availability from 5 am to 10 pm for domestic users.
The utility has also deployed round-the-clock teams to address low-pressure complaints. Officials said these teams are working continuously across franchise areas to stabilize supply during the cold spell.
