The Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) has intensified efforts to make Karachi cleaner and greener. The board is converting garbage dumping points into public green spaces across the city.
Recently, SSWMB removed a garbage dumping site on Textile Avenue Road near Jamia Binoria in the Sindh Industrial Trading Estate (SITE), District Keamari. Workers cleared accumulated debris and transformed the area into a green belt. Plants and flowers were planted to improve the surroundings and discourage illegal dumping in the future.
Local industrialists supported the plantation drive. Saleem Nagaria, owner of FABKNIT Company and executive member of the SITE Association of Industry, personally planted trees at the site. The initiative aimed to make the area cleaner and more environmentally friendly.
SSWMB Managing Director Tariq Ali Nizamani said the board is committed to converting garbage heaps into green spaces throughout Sindh. “We are determined to turn garbage dumps into gardens. Illegal dumping points are gradually being eliminated and replaced with plantations to promote a clean, green Karachi,” he said. He also emphasized that citizen and industrial cooperation is essential to maintain these efforts.
Assistant Director of SITE Zone, Ghulam Nabi, confirmed that operations to remove garbage dumping points continue. He added that another dumping point near Naurus Chowrangi was recently cleared and converted into a plantation site. Large quantities of construction debris are also being removed from different parts of SITE to improve cleanliness and restore the environment of the industrial area.
SSWMB officials said the board will continue strengthening Sindh’s waste management system. They aim to maintain cleanliness across Karachi and enhance public spaces for residents. Officials emphasized that ongoing collaboration with the community and industries is vital to ensure sustainable environmental improvements.
The initiative reflects Sindh’s commitment to urban greening and sustainable development. By transforming garbage dumps into green belts, authorities hope to make Karachi a cleaner, healthier, and more attractive city for everyone.
