The Sindh government has revised school timings across the province in response to an ongoing cold spell affecting many areas. According to an official notification from the Sindh Education Department, all public and private schools will now commence classes at 9:00 am, while the closing times will remain unchanged. This adjusted schedule is set to begin on Monday and will remain in effect until January 26.
Authorities explained that the decision was made to safeguard students from harsh early-morning temperatures, ensuring they are not exposed to severe cold while traveling to schools or during initial hours of classes. The measure is part of the provincial government’s efforts to protect children’s health amid the intensifying winter conditions.
The change in Sindh comes as other provinces have also taken steps to address the cold weather, albeit with different approaches. For instance, the Punjab government has implemented a stricter policy by extending winter vacations for schools and colleges. This move keeps educational institutions closed for a longer period, aiming to prevent students from facing health risks due to extreme cold. Officials in Punjab stated that the extension of winter holidays prioritizes students’ well-being and safety during unusually low temperatures.
While Sindh has opted for a later start rather than a full closure, both measures reflect a growing focus on adjusting educational routines in response to severe weather conditions. Parents and students have been advised to follow the revised schedule and take precautions to stay warm, particularly during travel to and from schools.

The Sindh Education Department emphasized that the adjusted timings are temporary and will be reassessed after January 26, depending on weather conditions. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and may issue further guidelines to ensure student safety throughout the cold spell.
