Sindh Schools Closed on March 11 for Youm-e-Ali

The Sindh government has announced a public holiday for all educational institutions across the province on March 11. The closure is being observed to mark Youm-e-Ali, which commemorates the martyrdom of Hazrat Ali (RA) on the 21st of Ramadan. Authorities confirmed that both public and private schools and colleges will remain closed on the day.

According to an official notification issued by the provincial government, the decision applies to every educational institution operating under the Sindh education system. The announcement was made following recommendations from the Sindh sub-committee of the steering committee on education, which reviews academic schedules and holidays throughout the year.

Youm-e-Ali is observed with deep respect and religious devotion across Pakistan every year. The day marks the martyrdom anniversary of Hazrat Ali (RA), the fourth caliph of Islam. Religious gatherings, majalis, and processions are held in many cities to pay tribute to his legacy, courage, and teachings.

Authorities usually implement special security arrangements during the day because large processions and public gatherings take place in several areas. Police and local administrations coordinate to ensure peaceful observance. Roads along procession routes may also face temporary closures or diversions in some cities.

Meanwhile, a separate announcement has been made regarding educational institutions in the federal capital. Schools and colleges operating under the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) in Islamabad will observe spring break later this month. The break will start from March 24 and continue until March 27.

According to the FDE notification, all institutions under its jurisdiction will remain closed during the spring vacation period. Educational institutions are scheduled to reopen on March 30. Authorities have also directed teaching staff to complete the compilation and announcement of in-house annual examination results during the break period.
