The Sindh government has officially announced adjusted school timings for the holy month of Ramadan, affecting both single and double-shift institutions across the province. Meanwhile, the Punjab School Education Department is deliberating on a proposal to reduce school hours, with final approval still pending.
According to a notification from the Sindh Education Department, primary schools operating in double shifts will have their first shift from 7:30 am to 11:30 am, and the second from 11:45 am to 2:45 pm. Single-shift primary schools will run from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm. On Fridays, the schedule will differ slightly, with the first shift ending at 10:30 am and single-shift schools closing at 11:30 am, while the second shift will continue until 1:15 pm.

For secondary, higher secondary, and elementary schools, double-shift institutions will operate the first shift from 7:30 am to 11:30 am, and the second shift from 11:45 am to 2:45 pm. Single-shift schools will follow the same schedule as primary schools. The revised timings aim to accommodate the needs of fasting students and staff.
In Punjab, the School Education Department has proposed reducing school hours by two hours. The current proposal suggests that girls’ schools operate from 7:30 am to 12:15 pm, while boys’ schools will run from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm. This is a significant adjustment from the usual timings, which extend until 2:30 pm for boys and 2:45 pm for girls. A final decision is expected before Ramadan begins.
The adjustments in both provinces reflect efforts to make school hours more manageable during the holy month, ensuring that both students and staff can balance educational commitments with fasting.
