Sindh Government in Negotiations with Chinese Giant to Establish Bus Assembly Plant in Karachi

The Sindh government is in discussions with Chinese giant Yutong to establish an assembly plant in Karachi on a joint-venture basis, according to Sharjeel Inam Memon, Sindh’s Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit. The project aims to create job opportunities for skilled workers in the province and is part of broader efforts to improve transportation infrastructure.

Memon shared these details as the chief guest at the 18th Build Asia International Conference and Exhibition at the Expo Center, emphasizing that the government is also considering an electric vehicle (EV) cab scheme and the import of 100 additional buses to address transportation needs in the province.

The Sindh government is actively working to boost economic activities, with plans to attract foreign investors to Karachi. High-level meetings with Chinese investors and business delegations are being held, particularly at the Dhabajee Special Economic Zone, which is a part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). These efforts aim to establish various projects and attract investment to Karachi from both local and international sources, in collaboration with the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SFIC).

Memon also highlighted Karachi’s appeal as a prime destination for business, with the provincial government collaborating with the federal government to create a conducive business environment and provide security to foreign investors. The government’s efforts to facilitate business activities and encourage economic growth include initiatives such as trade fairs and other events to attract foreign delegates.

The Build Asia Exhibition and Conference, a significant event for the construction sector, featured seminars on real estate investment, financing trends, and the integration of technology in construction. The event, which attracted over 35,000 visitors, brought together stakeholders from various sectors, including aluminum, cement, steel, tiles, and transportation, to showcase innovations in sustainable and environment-friendly construction practices.
