The Sindh government has announced that May 1 will be observed as a public holiday across the province in recognition of International Labour Day, honouring the contributions and struggles of workers worldwide. The announcement was made through a notification issued by the Services, General Administration and Coordination Department.
As per the notification, all government and semi-government offices will remain closed, along with public and private educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and universities. The move aligns with global practices that commemorate the efforts of the working class.

International Labour Day, also known as May Day, highlights the importance of fair labour practices, decent working conditions, and the protection of workers’ rights. The day serves as a tribute to past struggles and a call to continue striving for equitable treatment of workers across all sectors.
Labour Day has been officially recognised as a public holiday in Pakistan since 1972 and is marked annually through rallies, seminars, and events organised by trade unions and labour rights groups.
