December 27 Public Holiday What You Need to Know

The Sindh government has declared a Public Holiday on December 27 to mark the 18th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. On this day, all government offices and local councils across the province will remain closed to honor her legacy.

A formal notification from the Services, General Administration, and Coordination Department confirmed that the closure applies to provincial government offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils. Citizens and employees are advised to plan accordingly.

This announcement comes shortly after another Public Holiday observed earlier in the week. December 25, which coincides with Christmas, also marks the birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan. Government offices in Sindh remained closed on this day as well, allowing citizens to pay tribute to the nation’s founding leader.

The province has emphasized that these holidays provide an opportunity for people to reflect on Pakistan’s political and national history. Observing both the death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto and the birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah highlights the significance of their contributions to the country.

Officials said that during the Public Holiday on December 27, all regular administrative functions in government offices will be suspended. However, essential services and emergency departments are expected to operate as usual to ensure public safety and service continuity.

Local authorities have also urged citizens to respect the holiday schedule and avoid scheduling official work or appointments on the designated day. Public awareness campaigns and media announcements will help inform residents about the upcoming Public Holiday.
