The Sindh government has initiated a strict crackdown on petrol pumps in Karachi to protect consumers from short-measured fuel. The drive began on Wednesday and focuses on fuel stations in District East and District South.
Officials said the initiative aims to ensure that customers receive the exact amount of petrol and diesel they pay for. Authorities emphasized that no petrol pump will be allowed to cheat customers or engage in unfair practices.
The Department of Price and Dispatch issued instructions to its Director General and Controller to carry out surprise inspections at petrol pumps. Inspection teams have been instructed to secretly measure fuel dispensed to customers using specialized equipment.
Petrol pumps found violating the rules will face immediate fines. In addition, their outlets may be sealed on the spot to prevent further cheating. Officials said these strict measures are intended to maintain transparency and protect public interest.
Authorities added that the inspections will cover multiple petrol pumps across Karachi. Consumers are encouraged to report irregularities to the authorities. Officials said monitoring will continue until full compliance is achieved throughout the city.
The Sindh government also warned all petrol pumps to strictly follow standard procedures for fuel dispensing. Operators failing to comply will face severe penalties without exception. The campaign demonstrates the government’s commitment to consumer protection and accountability in the fuel sector.
Officials believe that this crackdown will restore confidence among residents and ensure fair and honest service at petrol pumps. They also said similar measures could be extended to other districts if violations persist.
