The Sindh government has allowed the PTI Rally to take place at Bagh-e-Jinnah, reflecting its commitment to democratic norms. Authorities emphasized that all political activities must comply with the law.
Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah confirmed that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) requested permission to organize the rally. He said discussions are ongoing with PTI leaders to finalize the arrangements. Shah added that PTI can hold rallies anywhere in Karachi as long as the events remain lawful.
The minister stressed that peaceful political struggle cannot be stopped in a democratic society. He warned, however, that violations of the law could create problems. PTI has also applied to hold rallies in Korangi and Karachi South, which are under review.
KP Chief Minister Visits Karachi
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi arrived in Karachi to attend the PTI Rally. He was welcomed at Jinnah International Airport by Sindh Minister for Labour and Manpower Saeed Ghani, who presented him and other guests with Sindhi caps and Ajrak. Several PTI leaders, including Salman Akram Raja, Shaukat Basra, and Haleem Adil Sheikh, were also present.
The arrival saw a minor scuffle among PTI workers at the airport, which was quickly resolved. Afridi then proceeded in a convoy toward Bagh-e-Jinnah and later Insaf House, responding to slogans raised by supporters along the route.
PPP’s Position on Political Freedom
Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon criticized PTI’s past policies but reaffirmed the provincial government’s support for democratic values. He said criticism and differences of opinion are normal in a democracy. Sharjeel confirmed that the Sindh government would provide full security and protocol for Afridi and other visitors.
Authorities emphasized that all events, including the PTI Rally, must follow legal guidelines and avoid public inconvenience. The government will facilitate necessary arrangements while ensuring public safety.
