During question time, Power Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan informed the chamber that K-payment Electric’s problems were being addressed and that a new contract will likely be signed within the coming weeks.
He said that a task team led by PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has been established by the Prime Minister Office with the goal of addressing a number of difficulties between the government and K-Electric, including the recovery of an overdue payment.
He added that dues against K-Electric had begun to mount since 2015. “Once the task group finalises its recommendations for recovery of pending dues, the same will be taken after approval of the federal cabinet appropriately,” he said.
In response to a different query, Mr. Khan stated that in order to increase the nation’s exports, the government was giving power to five export-oriented sectors at a cost of Rs19.99 per unit. He claimed that initiatives were being taken by the administration to produce cheap electricity for the nation.
The minister declared that solar projects were being introduced as a substitute for fossil fuels in the production of electricity and that the government had eliminated the sales tax on solar panels. The minister claimed that in order to offer affordable electricity, micro-solar grids were being deployed in rural regions and federal government buildings were being solarized.
