Shubman Gill Crowned No.1 in ICC Rankings Ahead of Champions Trophy 2025

India’s Shubman Gill has reclaimed the title of the world’s No.1 ODI batter, surpassing former Pakistan captain Babar Azam just before the start of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Gill’s recent century against England in Ahmedabad propelled him back to the top, a position he first held during the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

Babar, now ranked second, will be aiming to reclaim his top spot as he leads Pakistan in their opening Champions Trophy clash against New Zealand in Karachi. Meanwhile, India’s Rohit Sharma remains steady in third, further solidifying India’s stronghold on the ODI batting rankings.

New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell has climbed to fifth place, Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka to eighth, and Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan moves up to 15th. Pakistan’s Salman Agha made the most significant progress, leaping 24 places to secure 48th in the rankings.

In the bowling rankings, Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana has overtaken Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan to become the world’s No.1 ODI bowler. Despite Sri Lanka not participating in the Champions Trophy, Theekshana’s exceptional performances against Australia earned him the top spot. Rashid, now second, will look to regain his position as he takes part in the tournament.

India’s Kuldeep Yadav moved up to fourth in the bowling charts, while Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi retains his top ranking among all-rounders, with New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner rising to sixth.

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is now set to unfold with an extra layer of excitement as the world’s top-ranked players look to shine on cricket’s global stage.
