Sheikh Hasina's son denies claims that she blamed the US for the government's downfall

Sajeeb Wazed, the son of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has refuted claims made by certain media outlets that his mother blamed the United States for the crisis leading to her government’s downfall. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Wazed clarified that the statement attributed to his mother was entirely false and fabricated. He confirmed that Hasina had not made any such remarks before or after leaving Dhaka.

The false media reports suggested that Hasina’s alleged resignation letter claimed she could have saved her government by handing over St. Martin Island, a strategically significant location near Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf peninsula, to the United States.

As Bangladesh continues to experience escalating violence and unrest, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Muhammad Yunus has been appointed to lead an interim government. Despite his efforts, the situation remains dire, with widespread chaos and bloodshed.

The crisis has deepened as the country’s police force, after suffering brutal attacks—even during attempts to surrender—has largely refused to operate. Officers are reportedly taking a cautious approach, staying in plain clothes at their stations while making a list of demands, including the creation of a separate ministry for police. Until these demands are addressed, the police force has decided to go slow, further exacerbating the disorder. In a related development, the Border Security Force (BSF) of India reported apprehending 11 Bangladeshi nationals who were attempting to cross into India illegally.
