Shehbaz Sharif Urges Global Action on Climate at Glacier Protection Summit

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s climate vulnerabilities while addressing the International Conference on Glacier Protection in Tajikistan. He stressed that Pakistan, with over 13,000 glaciers, relies heavily on these crucial freshwater sources, which are rapidly melting due to climate change.

Recalling the devastating 2022 floods caused by erratic weather and heavy monsoons, PM Sharif emphasized that despite Pakistan contributing less than 0.5% to global emissions, it remains one of the top 10 countries most affected by climate crises. He called on developed nations to fulfill their responsibilities by investing in early warning systems and supporting climate adaptation in vulnerable countries.
