Karachi Airport Attack

KARACHI – July 30, 2025: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday heard a bail plea filed by Gul Nisa, a woman accused of helping plan a Karachi airport attack that targeted Chinese nationals in 2024.

The court was presented with the final charge sheet and forensic report by the prosecution. SHC instructed that copies of both documents be provided to the defence team. The bail hearing has been adjourned until August 7.

Gul Nisa and a co-accused, Javed, were arrested last year. Police allege they assisted the suicide bomber who struck near Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport on October 6, 2024. The attack killed two Chinese nationals and a local citizen. Six others, including a woman, were injured.

The defence lawyer asked the court to obtain call data records and CCTV footage, specifically videos showing Gul Nisa’s alleged route into the city through Hub. The court responded by issuing notices to both the prosecution and the investigating officer, ordering them to submit replies by August 2.

The court has reserved its judgment on the defence’s request for video evidence. A ruling is expected in the next hearing.

Earlier, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) submitted the final challan in the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), naming Gul Nisa and Javed as facilitators. The suicide bomber, Shah Fahad, was reportedly radicalized by two masterminds, Commander Bashir Baloch and Abdul Rehman, both of whom are currently absconding.

The Karachi airport attack raised security concerns over the safety of foreign workers, especially those involved in infrastructure and development projects linked to China.

The SHC’s decision on the bail plea will be closely watched, as it may influence future proceedings in this high-profile terrorism case.
