Pakistan’s Test captain Shan Masood has respectfully turned down an offer from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to serve as Consultant for International Cricket and Players Affairs, opting to dedicate his complete attention to his playing career.
According to sources, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi had recently extended a verbal proposal to Shan Masood, recognizing his strong academic background, leadership qualities, and in-depth understanding of international cricket. The board viewed Masood as a suitable candidate who could provide valuable insight on player-related matters and global cricket affairs while continuing his role as a senior member of the national team.
However, Masood conveyed to the PCB chairman that taking on an administrative or advisory position alongside his responsibilities as an active international cricketer would be challenging. He explained that the demands of top-level cricket require his full focus and energy, especially at this stage of his career. Masood emphasized that his priority remains contributing on the field and leading Pakistan’s Test side to improved performances.
Sources further revealed that Shan Masood expressed his gratitude to Mohsin Naqvi for the confidence shown in him and politely apologized for being unable to accept the offer. The PCB chairman reportedly appreciated Masood’s honesty and professionalism, fully respecting his decision and extending best wishes for his continued success in international cricket.
The PCB’s interest in involving Masood in an off-field role was not new. Discussions around utilizing his experience and knowledge in a consultancy capacity had been ongoing since October. The board had seen the potential benefit of having an active player with strong analytical skills contribute to broader cricketing strategies.
For the time being, Shan Masood will continue solely in his role as Pakistan’s Test captain, with his attention firmly fixed on on-field commitments and future international assignments.
