Shahid Afridi Says He’d Be PCB Chairman If Influence Was the Only Factor

Shahid Afridi Criticizes PCB System, Expresses Desire for Leadership Role

Gilgit – Former Pakistan cricket captain and legendary all-rounder Shahid Khan Afridi recently voiced his opinion about the state of Pakistan cricket, suggesting that if he had the influence, he would currently hold the position of chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Speaking to the media in Gilgit, Afridi remarked, “If I had influence, I would be the PCB chairman today. During our time, the national team had many match-winners, but now there aren’t as many.” He expressed concerns about the lack of quality players in the current team and emphasized the need for stronger guidance at the youth levels, particularly for Under-16, 17, and 19 players.

Afridi also criticized the management of domestic cricket, stating, “If domestic cricket is handed over to bureaucrats, no one will understand the system. Every PCB chairman is appointed on political grounds; changing faces doesn’t change the system.”

He further asserted that if the region of Gilgit-Baltistan produces talent, it would not go to waste under his leadership. “If I ever join PCB, it will be for the sake of Pakistan. I don’t need any contract or position,” Afridi said, showing his commitment to the development of Pakistani cricket.
