ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad police have detained several Jamaat-e-Islami workers at D-Chowk during a protest in the capital, with arrests continuing as the situation develops.
Reports indicate that the detained workers have been moved to a prison van. To manage the protest, police and administrative authorities have blocked routes to D-Chowk using containers. Containers have also been set up at the city’s entry points, leaving only one lane open for traffic on major roads and intersections, which has caused long vehicle queues and significant inconvenience to residents.
A large police presence has been deployed at Faizabad, with water cannons and tear gas at the ready. The operational police have been supplied with 10,000 tear gas shells to control the protesters. At Zero Point bridge, two lanes have been opened while the remaining lanes are obstructed by containers. Additionally, the heads of three government hospitals have been instructed to keep their emergency departments on high alert until Monday.
