Serbian authorities have detained 11 people accused of carrying out hate-motivated acts in France and Germany, including vandalizing Jewish sites and placing pig heads near mosques, officials announced Monday.
According to the Interior Ministry, the Serbian nationals were trained by another suspect—linked to a foreign intelligence service—who remains at large. The group’s aim was reportedly to promote hatred, discrimination, and violence.
In early September, nine pig heads were found outside mosques in Paris and nearby areas, sparking outrage amid concerns over growing anti-Muslim sentiment. Months earlier, in April, Paris’s Holocaust Memorial, three synagogues, and a restaurant were defaced with green paint.
Three Serbs have already been charged and jailed in France over the incidents. The newly arrested group will face prosecution for offences including racial discrimination and espionage.
The coordinated arrests took place in Belgrade and Velika Plana, about 100 km south of the capital.
