The Election Commission of Pakistan has officially disqualified Senator Murad Saeed from his Senate seat. The decision comes after his conviction by an Anti-Terrorism Court Rawalpindi in the May 9 GHQ attack case. Following the notification, his seat from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been declared vacant.
Senator Murad Saeed, a senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, was sentenced to 10 years in prison. The court also imposed fines of Rs 500,000 on each convict and ordered the confiscation of their properties. The verdict targets those involved in attacks on GHQ gate, Hamza Camp, and the Army Museum during the May 9 protests.
