Dr. Moeed Pirzada, a Pakistani TV anchor known for his critical stance against the state, has sparked controversy after acquiring a $1.055 million home in the upscale Potomac area of Maryland, USA. The revelation, made by investigative journalist Fakhar Durrani, comes less than a year after Pirzada fled Pakistan citing life-threatening risks.

Pirzada and his wife, Najma Naheed, relocated abroad around two years ago. Public records show they purchased a 2-kanal (approx. half-acre) property featuring four bedrooms, 2.5 baths, a home office, and two garages. Originally listed at $965,000 in July 2023, the home’s value has since increased by about $100,000.

The purchase has drawn attention, especially since Pirzada has claimed to be living in hiding due to security concerns following former PM Imran Khan’s removal. Critics have questioned how Pirzada could afford such an expensive purchase so soon after leaving Pakistan.

Responding to the backlash, Pirzada said the home was financed through the sale of their UK residence. UK Land Registry records confirm the home, bought in 2006 for £420,000, was sold in April 2023 for £885,000. Pirzada also took out a $505,000 mortgage from Movement Mortgage LLC at a 6.78% interest rate.

However, Pakistani tax records reveal that the UK asset was never declared, potentially violating local tax laws. Moreover, Najma Naheed, despite being a registered taxpayer in Pakistan, has no declared income sources.

Pirzada also established a media firm, MNP Multimedia LLC, in Maryland in March 2023. By September, the company’s address was updated to the Potomac residence. No financial disclosures have been filed by the firm to date.
