Unidentified gunmen targeted the Jaffar Express in Dera Murad Jamali, Balochistan, firing bullets and launching four rockets at the passenger train. Security forces responded immediately, preventing a major tragedy and forcing the attackers to escape. Minor damage to a few bogies was reported, but all passengers remained safe.
The train was briefly stopped at the station while a search operation was launched to hunt down the suspects. Officials confirmed enhanced security along the route as investigations continue.
The Jaffar Express has faced repeated attacks in recent years. Earlier this year, the train was hijacked in Bolan Valley, and a similar strike occurred near Quetta last year. In a recent incident in Mastung’s Dasht area, an explosive device detonated under the tracks, injuring several passengers and derailing four coaches. That blast halted rail services while authorities repaired the track.
In March, terrorists hijacked the train carrying over 400 passengers in the Bolan Pass, killing 21 people before security forces carried out a clearance operation. According to ISPR DG Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, militants were receiving instructions from handlers in Afghanistan and used women and children as human shields.
He stressed that no one involved in attacking innocent civilians will be spared, and vowed that those behind the Jaffar Express assault will be tracked down and punished.
After last attack, Political leaders strongly condemn the attack on Jaffar Express
