Authorities in Islamabad and Rawalpindi have issued a high-level security alert for the next 48 hours amid fears that militant groups could attempt retaliatory attacks in the twin cities. The warning comes as intelligence agencies believe pressure on extremist networks may trigger violent responses targeting security forces and public areas.
According to officials, militant organizations such as the Balochistan Liberation Army and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan may attempt to carry out attacks following recent security operations. Authorities fear that these groups could focus on locations where large numbers of people gather, including religious sites and busy commercial zones.
In Islamabad, several sensitive locations have been placed under heightened surveillance. Security officials consider prominent sites such as Faisal Mosque, Centaurus Mall, and Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences as potential targets. Authorities have warned that mosques during Taraweeh prayers, Friday congregations, and crowded markets may face increased risk during the alert period. Shopping centres and other busy public areas are also under strict monitoring.
Meanwhile, in Rawalpindi, law enforcement agencies are closely observing several major commercial hubs known for heavy foot traffic. Security has been tightened in areas such as Raja Bazaar, Sadiqabad Bazaar, Dubai Plaza, and Moti Bazaar, where large numbers of shoppers and traders gather daily. These locations are considered sensitive due to their dense crowds and commercial importance.
Citizens in both Rawalpindi and Islamabad have been advised to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary visits to crowded areas during the next two days. Authorities have also urged people to stay away from temporary stalls, large gatherings, or suspicious locations. Security agencies have increased patrols and surveillance in key zones while closely monitoring the situation to prevent any potential threats.
