On Wednesday, he revealed that he and his wife, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, are separating. The only other Canadian Prime Minister to do so was his father, Pierre Elliott Trudeau, who announced his separation from his wife, Margaret Trudeau, in 1977.
Pierre Trudeau served as Canada’s prime minister from 1968 to 1979, and again from 1980 to 1984. The announcement of his parents’ separation had a profound impact on Justin Trudeau, as he mentioned in his 2014 memoir ‘Common Ground.’

The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that they have signed a legal separation agreement. They intend to co-parent their children in a safe and loving environment.
Trudeau has led the Liberal party to two minority victories and expressed his intention to lead the party into the next federal election.
