[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]Scientists have made a remarkable discovery of an exoplanet called LTT9779b, which challenges our expectations. This exoplanet, similar in size to Neptune, orbits very close to its star, completing an orbit every 19 hours. The star-facing side of LTT9779b reaches extreme temperatures of around 2,000 degrees Celsius.

This finding was initially made by NASA in 2020 and later confirmed by the European Space Agency’s Cheops space telescope.

What surprised researchers the most was the planet’s high reflectiveness, or albedo, which is unusual for a planet with such intense heat. Despite its extreme conditions, LTT9779b has an atmosphere rich in metals and silicate vapors, leading to the formation of metallic clouds and even raindrops made of titanium. Additionally, it defies expectations as planets of this size and proximity to their stars are not typically able to retain their atmospheres.

The reflective clouds play a crucial role in preventing the planet from overheating and losing its atmosphere. Further investigation using telescopes like Hubble and James Webb is expected to provide more comprehensive data and insights about LTT9779b.
