SC Serves Notice to Punjab Govt on Imran Khan’s Appeals

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has issued a notice to the Punjab government over appeals filed by jailed PTI founder Imran KhanChief Justice Yahya Afridi questioned whether final observations could be made in a bail case and instructed the prosecution to prepare legal arguments before the next hearing on August 19. Both Imran Khan’s lawyers and opposing counsel were told to assist the court on the identified legal issues. The Chief Justice clarified that no findings would be issued that might influence another ongoing case involving Khan. For now, only the prosecution has been formally notified.

Separately, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government responded to a statement posted on Imran Khan’s X account opposing a federal military operation in the province’s tribal areas. The post, addressed to KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, warned such an operation could damage relations between state institutions and the public.

KP government spokesperson Faraz Ahmed Mughal said the authenticity of the statement had not been confirmed but stressed that Gandapur considers his role a trust from Khan and would resign if instructed by him. Mughal noted Gandapur cannot currently meet Khan due to restrictions but remains committed to maintaining peace and security in the province.
