The Supreme Court (SC) adjourned the bail hearing of PTI founder Imran Khan in the May 9 cases. The hearing was delayed due to the absence of the prosecutor. The prosecutor was reported to be unwell because of food poisoning.
The SC bench, led by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, decided to postpone the hearing until the next day at 10:30 a.m. The court rejected the prosecution’s request to delay the hearing further until next week.
The three-member bench also included Justices Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui and Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb. During the hearing, Imran Khan’s lawyer, Barrister Salman Safdar, requested the court to hear their arguments. However, the chief justice insisted on hearing the prosecution’s side first.
The chief justice asked whether the earlier decision of the Lahore High Court should be upheld. Only after the prosecution presented its case would the defense be allowed to share its arguments.
Safdar expressed frustration over the continuous delays in the case. He pointed out that the case has been pending in the Lahore High Court for eight months. He also noted that multiple prosecutors had been replaced during numerous adjournments.
The SC emphasized that it would not allow long postponements. The next hearing is scheduled for the following day. When Safdar requested that a family member be allowed to speak in court, the chief justice refused, stating that no family member would be permitted to address the court.
The SC’s decision shows a firm stance on moving the case forward without unnecessary delays. This case remains under close watch as it involves the high-profile political figure, Imran Khan. The SC’s prompt scheduling aims to ensure timely justice.
