A viral report circulating on social media and WhatsApp falsely claims that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) will introduce redesigned currency notes by the end of 2025 in denominations of Rs10, Rs20, Rs50, Rs100, Rs500, Rs1,000, and Rs5,000.

However, fact-checking reveals that these claims are baseless. The SBP has officially denied any such plans regarding new banknotes.

The misleading report stated that the upcoming notes would include:

  • Advanced security features
  • A polymer (plastic-like) material
  • A markhor image on the Rs50 note
  • Poetry by Allama Iqbal engraved on the notes
  • A UV-glowing map and Sufi dancer image on the Rs500 note

It also alleged the designs resulted from a secret art contest in 2024. The SBP has firmly rejected all these claims.

An SBP spokesperson clarified, “There is no intention to redesign Pakistan’s currency notes or shift to polymer materials in 2025. The notes currently in circulation, issued between 2005 and 2008, remain legal tender and will continue in use.”

The SBP further emphasized that no banknote will feature Allama Iqbal’s poetry, glowing maps, or artistic images as rumored.

The misinformation has been debunked as false, and the public is urged to rely on official SBP channels for accurate updates on currency or policy changes.
