The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) released a commemorative Rs55 coin on Friday to celebrate the 555th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism.
The coin, made from a nickel-brass alloy, weighs 13.5 grams with a 30 mm diameter. Its obverse side bears a crescent and star, the words “Islami Jamhuria Pakistan” in Urdu, the year 2024, and the denomination “55.” The reverse side features an image of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s monument, along with inscriptions reading “555th Birthday Celebrations” and “1469-2024.”

This release coincides with celebrations at Gurdwara Janamashtham Nankana Sahib, where Sikh devotees gathered for religious rituals. Starting November 22, 2024, the coin will be available at SBP Banking Services Corporation exchange counters.
This initiative underscores Pakistan’s recognition of the Sikh community’s global importance and its stewardship of Sikhism’s sacred sites.
