$1Bn Agreement Expected As Saudi Delegation Visits This Week

A high-profile Saudi Delegation, led by Prince Mansour bin Mohammed Al Saud, will arrive in Pakistan this week to explore new investment opportunities across several sectors. The visit highlights the growing economic partnership between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, following the recent signing of a major strategic mutual defence agreement between the two countries.

According to official sources, the Saudi Delegation is expected to announce an initial investment of up to $1 billion in Pakistan. The group will focus on projects related to technology, sports equipment, food, agriculture, and defence production. These areas have been identified as key growth sectors capable of boosting Pakistan’s economy and strengthening bilateral trade ties.

In addition, the delegation is likely to evaluate potential investments in petrochemical plants, government institutions, and the Reko Diq mining project. Sources say that Saudi investors are particularly interested in opportunities linked to Pakistan’s long-term energy and infrastructure development. However, the size and pace of investment may depend on Islamabad’s ongoing economic reforms, including steps to increase transparency and simplify profit repatriation for foreign companies.

The upcoming visit follows Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent trip to Riyadh on September 17, where he met Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to expanding economic, strategic, and Islamic cooperation. During his visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz was welcomed with a guard of honour, and his aircraft received a special escort from Saudi Air Force F-15 jets, symbolizing deepening goodwill between the two allies.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office described the Saudi Delegation’s visit as a “significant step towards consolidating historic partnerships.” Officials said both nations are exploring new areas of collaboration, particularly in energy, infrastructure, and defence.

The recent mutual defence pact between the two countries ensures joint protection of the Two Holy Mosques, marking a milestone in regional security cooperation. Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir played a key role in securing the agreement, aimed at strengthening defence integration and stability in the region.
