Cold Wave and Dust Storms to Hit Saudi Arabia: NCM Issues Warning

The National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) has issued a warning about an impending cold wave that is expected to impact Saudi Arabia during the first quarter of winter. Starting Sunday, temperatures in some regions are forecast to drop as low as -3°C.

According to Hussain Al Qahtani, NCM’s spokesperson, the cold air mass will primarily affect areas like Tabuk, Al Jawf, Northern Borders, Hail, and the northern parts of the Eastern Province from Sunday to Tuesday. Minimum temperatures in these regions are expected to range from 0°C to -3°C.

The cold snap will extend further to Al Qassim, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province on Monday and Tuesday, where temperatures could dip to 2°C to 5°C.

In addition to the temperature drop, strong winds are expected to bring dust storms on Sunday and Monday, particularly in the affected regions. These winds may also affect parts of Mecca and Medina, including coastal areas, especially during the daytime.

The NCM has urged residents to stay informed through official updates, take necessary precautions, and follow safety guidelines issued by authorities. Reduced visibility due to dust storms is anticipated in parts of Mecca and Medina, prompting the NCM to advise citizens and residents to remain vigilant and prepare for the challenging weather conditions.
