A couple in Sargodha has died by suicide after allegedly facing sustained police harassment and extortion, triggering public outrage and demands for accountability.
Before her death, the woman recorded a video message accusing local police officials of repeatedly threatening the couple and demanding illegal payments from them.
She alleged the officers sought a bribe of five tola gold and Rs2.5 million, warning of physical abuse and remand if demands were refused.
In the emotional video, the woman said the couple chose to consume poisonous tablets to escape humiliation and ongoing pressure from authorities.
Police officials said those named in the allegations would be interrogated, while assurances were given that the matter would be investigated thoroughly.
The incident follows earlier extortion cases involving policemen misusing the CCD name, raising fresh concerns over abuse of power and public trust.
