Former Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, has reportedly decided to leave the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) and join the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
According to media sources, Ilyas is expected to officially announce his decision after meeting with PPP’s senior leadership. However, his possible inclusion in the party has raised concerns among some PPP leaders in AJK, who have urged the leadership not to offer him any prominent roles.

Speculation is growing about the potential appointment of Ilyas as PPP’s AJK President in the near future.
Earlier, the AJK Supreme Court overturned his disqualification ruling, allowing him to once again run for public office. His appeal was successful against the AJK High Court’s decision, which had previously disqualified him in a contempt of court case.
Ilyas, who had sought clemency, received relief when a full bench led by Chief Justice Raja Saeed Akram Khan quashed his conviction, restoring his political eligibility just a month after his disqualification.
Political Background: Sardar Tanveer Ilyas served as the 14th Prime Minister of AJK from April 2022 to April 2023 and was also the President of PTI AJK from September 2021 to April 2023. His shift to the PPP represents a significant change in Azad Kashmir’s political dynamics.
