No Final Decision On Constitutional Court Boycott Says Salman Akram Raja

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary-General Salman Akram Raja said on Tuesday that his party has not made a final decision on boycotting the constitutional court. He added that further consultations within PTI would take place before any formal action is decided.

Speaking to reporters during his appearance before the constitutional court, Salman Akram Raja stated that PTI does not recognise the court. He also said a petition concerning the solitary confinement of PTI founder Imran Khan is expected to be filed soon. The party has yet to decide whether it will appear before the court regarding this petition.

Earlier, during proceedings on electoral disputes and the formation of tribunals in the federal constitutional court, Raja reiterated that no boycott decision had been taken. During the hearing, PTI’s legal counsel, Advocate Sameer Khosa, raised objections regarding the autonomy and status of the federal constitutional court.

Khosa informed the court that he had shared his legal views with Salman Akram Raja, and it was yet to be confirmed whether Raja would retain him as counsel. Presiding judge Justice Aamer Farooq remarked that raising such legal objections is a constitutional right and part of due process.

The judge also addressed concerns over whether a smaller bench of the federal constitutional court could hear appeals against decisions of a larger Supreme Court bench. Justice Farooq stated that principles on this issue will be clarified after hearing arguments from all parties.

The court issued notices to all sides and adjourned the hearing. PTI’s final stance on participating in the constitutional court proceedings remains undecided, with internal discussions ongoing.
