Salman Agha Denies Pakistan Skipped Babar And Rizwan In Asia Cup

Pakistan captain Salman Agha has rejected suggestions that missing senior batters Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan led to the team’s loss in the 2025 Asia Cup final against India.

Speaking at a press conference after the match in Dubai, Salman Agha emphasized that the current squad has performed consistently in recent months. “This team was scoring 170–180 runs. Before the Asia Cup, we won the tri-series and reached the final. It’s not about missing any individual. We just didn’t finish well today,” he said.

Pakistan advanced to the final with wins over Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. However, in the title match, the batting lineup struggled, and Salman Agha himself endured a difficult spell. The team lost their last nine wickets for just 33 runs, allowing India to secure a decisive victory.

Despite spirited performances from Faheem Ashraf and Shaheen Afridi, Pakistan’s total fell short of what was required to challenge India.

The debate over the potential recall of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan is expected to continue ahead of Pakistan’s upcoming T20I series against South Africa. Rumors suggest the PCB may consider bringing back the experienced duo, even if Salman Agha prefers to rely on the current squad.

Salman Agha maintained that the existing team has enough balance and talent to compete at the highest level. He pointed to the squad’s recent success as proof that Pakistan does not solely depend on former stars to perform.

The captain’s comments underline his confidence in the team’s young and experienced mix, signaling a focus on development and future T20I tournaments.

Salman Agha’s approach highlights a strategy that values team cohesion and trust in current players, aiming to prepare Pakistan for competitive international cricket ahead.
