In a rare move during the ongoing war, Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine to align with Easter festivities. As announced by the Kremlin, the truce will start on April 19 at 6:00 PM and continue until midnight on April 21.
The Kremlin expressed hope that Ukraine would respect the ceasefire, warning that any violations would be met with a firm response. “We expect Ukraine to take similar steps during this period. Any breach will be dealt with decisively,” read the official statement.

President Putin stressed that Ukraine’s actions during the ceasefire would demonstrate its sincerity in pursuing peace. “Russia remains open to dialogue, and this truce will serve as a measure of Ukraine’s commitment to resolving the conflict,” he noted.
He also acknowledged the involvement of global powers such as the U.S. and China in working toward a fair and lasting resolution. “We value the international community’s support for a peaceful solution to the crisis,” Putin added.
