Richard Grenell, Trump’s Foreign Policy Aide, Advocates for Imran Khan’s Release in Viral Post

WASHINGTON – Richard Grenell, appointed by US President-elect Donald Trump as special envoy for missions, has sparked significant discussion after responding to a social media post shared by a Pakistani TV channel that labeled him as “homosexual.”

Grenell, who previously served as the Acting Director of National Intelligence in the United States, also made headlines by publicly calling for the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has been imprisoned for around 1.5 years.

Shortly after his appointment, Grenell shared a news article from the Pakistani TV channel about his new role and voiced his support for Khan’s freedom, tweeting, “I’ll say it again. Free Imran Khan.”

Grenell’s comments on the release of PTI founder Imran Khan add another layer of complexity to his new position, drawing significant attention to international human rights concerns and the political landscape in Pakistan.

This is not the first time that Imran Khan has received support from Washington. A number of US House of Representatives members have urged outgoing President Joe Biden to advocate for Khan’s release. In a letter, US senators called for the release of political prisoners, including Khan, and demanded action on human rights abuses occurring in Pakistan.
