Revival Plan Set to Breathe Life Into Punjab's Public Schools

The Punjab School Education Department has launched an ambitious initiative to reopen long-neglected government schools, aiming to revitalize the public education system without incurring additional hiring costs. Staff from previously outsourced schools will now be reassigned to these newly operational institutions.

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat Khan announced that over 26,000 teachers will be redeployed across 1,961 government schools. He emphasized that this move addresses staffing imbalances, as surplus teachers from certain areas are being shifted to schools in need.

The decision comes after a decade of outsourcing, during which 43,960 staff positions were cut. According to Hayat, no new teachers were hired during that time, despite the continued existence of these schools. Now, with the reopening, each tehsil in Punjab has gained 15 to 20 additional government schools.

Hayat confirmed that all appointments are internal, with the Punjab Finance Department approving the restructuring plan. This strategy is expected to improve educational access while maintaining budgetary control.
