Religious Affairs Ministry Urges PTA to Block Offensive Online Content

The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony has urged the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to take further action to block blasphemous and pornographic content on social media platforms. In a letter to the PTA, the ministry expressed concern over the continued accessibility of such content, despite previous efforts to regulate it.

The ministry highlighted that Pakistan is among the top countries with the highest viewership of adult content, calling this trend “alarming.” The letter also pointed out that the PTA’s proactive measures to block such content, in line with directives from the Supreme Court, have not yielded visible results.

This persistent availability of adult and blasphemous content is said to violate Pakistan’s cultural and religious values. The ministry emphasized that the widespread exposure to harmful material, especially among young people, undermines efforts to protect citizens from inappropriate content. The ministry has called on the PTA to strengthen its enforcement of content regulations to address these concerns more effectively.
