The Rawalpindi City Traffic Police have launched a strict crackdown on vehicles and motorcycles displaying fake number plates or “applied for” plates across the city.
A CTP spokesperson said special checkpoints have been set up at major entry and exit points, while enforcement teams patrol different areas to detect violators. The operation aims to improve road safety and ensure compliance with traffic laws.
During the current month, traffic police issued 1,755 challans to vehicles and motorcycles using fake number plates or missing official registration plates. Chief Traffic Officer Farhan Aslam directed officers to issue tickets and impound vehicles displaying these illegal plates. Vehicles will be released only after owners complete proper registration.
The CTP also warned strict legal action would be taken against individuals using counterfeit or fabricated plates. “A number plate serves as the legal identity of a vehicle. Concealing or faking it is a violation of the law,” said the officer.
Authorities urged motorists to register their vehicles on time and use number plates that meet official specifications to avoid penalties. The crackdown highlights the importance of maintaining legal vehicle identification for road safety and accountability.
Traffic police emphasized that following registration rules and avoiding fake number plates not only prevents fines but also supports city-wide efforts to maintain order and reduce traffic violations. The initiative has already led to increased awareness among drivers and more stringent enforcement of vehicle registration laws in Rawalpindi.

Officials said continued vigilance will be maintained to ensure that all vehicles comply with legal standards, and the public is encouraged to report any suspicious or illegal number plates they encounter.
