The Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium is likely to lose its hosting rights for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy due to logistical and financial challenges associated with broadcasting matches from four venues. Broadcasters have recommended limiting the event to three venues, citing difficulties in managing the increased expenses and logistical complexities of a fourth venue. As a result, Karachi, Lahore, and Dubai are being considered as the primary locations for the tournament.

Meanwhile, a significant development between Pakistan and India has occurred with both cricket boards reportedly agreeing on a “fusion formula.” This agreement will allow the two nations to participate in ICC events without hosting matches in each other’s countries. Under this arrangement, Pakistan will play its matches in India at neutral venues until 2027, and India will follow the same protocol for events held in Pakistan. This deal is set to apply to upcoming ICC tournaments, including the Asia Cup in 2025 and the T20 World Cup in 2026, both of which will be hosted by India.
Although the exclusion of Rawalpindi as a venue is a disappointment for local fans, it aligns with the practical considerations of broadcasters and the overall logistics of hosting a global event. The official schedule for the Champions Trophy is expected to be announced soon, with final decisions pending ICC approval.
