Rawalpindi, Murree Slide in District Performance Rankings

The Punjab government’s latest district-wise performance report for April reveals a sharp decline in the rankings of Rawalpindi and Murree, traditionally considered key areas in the Rawalpindi region. Once among the top three performers, Rawalpindi district has now plummeted to 26th place, while Murree has also dropped significantly, settling at 25th.

The performance report, which evaluates administrative efficiency and service delivery across Punjab’s districts, highlights a concerning trend for the Rawalpindi region. Lahore, the provincial capital, fared moderately better, securing the 11th position in the latest rankings.

Topping the list of best-performing districts is Bahawalnagar, followed by Layyah in second and Pakpattan in third. Other high-ranking districts include Rajanpur (4th), Vehari (5th), Chiniot (6th), Lodhran (7th), Okara (8th), Khanewal (9th), and Rahim Yar Khan (10th).

Further down the rankings, Mandi Bahauddin secured 12th place, while Faisalabad came in at 13th, followed by Bhakkar, Toba Tek Singh, and Multan. The report also lists Muzaffargarh (17th), Gujranwala (18th), Mianwali (19th), and Gujrat (20th), among others. At the bottom of the chart, Sialkot was ranked 30th, just below Attock and Sheikhupura.

The report underscores the need for improved governance and service delivery in the districts that have seen a drop in rankings. Analysts suggest that local administrations in Rawalpindi and Murree must address the shortcomings identified in the report to regain their previous standings.
