Ravi River Floods Private Housing Schemes Near Thokar Niaz Baig

Floodwaters from the Ravi River have reached private housing schemes near Thokar Niaz Beg, placing several communities in danger. Authorities have cautioned that the river’s flow may rise further in the coming hours.

The armed forces and district administration are building emergency embankments and taking protective steps to safeguard residents and surrounding neighborhoods. Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan also visited the affected sites to review the relief efforts.

Residents and livestock from vulnerable zones have been evacuated, with officials urging the public to avoid flood-prone areas for safety.

Massive Evacuations Underway
In Punjab, nearly 200,000 people have been displaced as the Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers overflow. Rescue teams, supported by the army, are using boats to relocate families and livestock from low-lying regions.

The crisis worsened after India released water from upstream dams. Sialkot, meanwhile, witnessed its heaviest rainfall in 49 years, submerging homes, vehicles, and streets. Many residents remain stranded, while some refuse evacuation to protect property and livestock.

These floods compound the destruction from this year’s monsoon rains, which have already claimed more than 800 lives across Pakistan since June.
